PROCESS

My ceramics are hand built from slabs and coils. Most of my work is made from high fire porcelain and, occasionally, I use stoneware clay.
The work is fired in a gas soda kiln or a wood fired kiln to 2300 F. See the “scrapbook” heading for more information about the firing process.

I sometime used “press molds” to add bas relief imagery to a piece or let the softness of the clay body expand naturally by pushing the already uneven surfaces just a bit more. The narrative images are painted on the surface with slips and I use glaze sparingly, usually just in the interior.
